In the piney woods of The Woodlands you can find a little taste of the Mediterranean and the Middle East in one place. Greek/Lebanese and food in the Middle East are extremely delicious and if you have never had it you need to try. I have never been to a restaurant that combines the food we find in Greece and the food we have had in countries like Jordan and Turkey. We found Lama Mediterranean Persian Cuisine while on a quick weekend “Staycation” up to the Woodlands. They participate in the airline dinning programs such as MileagePlus dinning that helps us find some great local restaurants. Lama’s is a family-owned restaurant with a devoted and very caring staff. The restaurant is very close to all the attractions in The Woodlands like the mall and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion. Like in the case of the cuisine around the world Persian food is influenced by the nations around it throughout history.  You can see Arab, Greek and other nations/empires in the Persian food. I have actually never had Persian food (Iranian) before but when eating it brought me back to times in Jordan and Turkey. Here is what it was like for us at Lama Mediterranean Persian Cuisine.

Our Experience

The restaurant was only a few minutes from our hotel (The Woodlands Resort) and its in a shopping center just off the street. The restaurant is elegantly decorated and a birthday party was going on at one table. The restaurant is great for a couples romantic dinner or a family occasion. We were greeted by the very friendly staff and got our choice of seats.  They have a large menu with a Mediterranean section and a Persian section. We love Greek style food but we wanted to try Persian food. Our waitress shared with us that the Dinner for 2 is a great way to try a little of everything and feed both of us. It all looked great to us so we decided to go with that option! The environment is very relaxing in the restaurant with nice classical music and small fountains. There are a few TVs that were playing the news. A relaxing dinner trying something new was exactly what we needed after acx╜ stressful week. The very friendly staff helped lower stress as well. Our meal started out with multiple dips including Hummus, Baba Ganoush (Eggplant based dip), Tzatziki and a salad. It came with very good homemade Pita bread. Our main course was on a large platter a great variety of food. There was Persian chicken, grilled kabob, grilled shrimp, lamb chops, and amazing saffron rice. It included some rice based cornbread like dish as well. The food was delicious and reminded me so much of my journeys to the Middle East. Middle Eastern food has such as great flavor and is pretty healthy. While it was a lot of food that definitely is good enough for two people and  some to take home we ate it all after swimming for several hours. It was a delicious and wonderful dinner. You are able to customize how they cook the meat as well. They all were cooked and seasoned perfectly. We also got a few spicy pickles that were similar to those I had in Jordan. After our meal we got some amazing Turkish Tea with mint. Tea is a tradition all over the Arab world including North Africa. After dinner I have had great tea in Morocco, Turkey and Jordan. This tea was just as good and just like teas I’ve had overseas, so it gives you a great insight into Middle Eastern culture. We also enjoyed some great Baklava that was very fresh and delicious. Everything we had was great and a journey overseas!

An amazing appetizer with hot fresh Pita!
A great variety so you can try a bit of everything!

The restaurant has even more cultural experiences you can have there. On Friday and Saturday nights they have live Belly Dancing you can see. They have an outdoor seating area that is nicely decorated and on Sunday mornings they have Mediterranean Brunch available. It is a great restaurant that I plan on visiting again when in The Woodlands. If you are in the area please go and support this great local restaurant and learn something about a different culture!
