Status of Travel Today and Tips
I want to give a word of warning and some travel advice related to what the current situation is in travel today. We have continued to travel in the past few months and have run into multiple delays and more flight cancellations than we have ever encountered in our travels. The situation with rental cars is also an issue. Flight Related Issues During the pandemic airlines reduced staff and retired some of their older aircraft. Now that travel has come roaring back (we can confirm that there are MANY more people traveling now than a few months ago) airlines are struggling to handle the load. There also has been a…

Texas Travel – Getting Reacquainted With Home Part IV
One area we visit multiple times a year and during the pandemic there was no exception is the South-Central region of Texas. While the places in this area might be considered part of other regions for my writings I am considering South-Central Texas as areas around San Antonio, East of I-35 in Austin and West of Houston. This would include cities like San Antonio, Gonzales, Shiner, La Grange, and Schulenburg. Its areas that are not in the Hill Country but not truly on the Gulf Coast as well. We visit San Antonio and cities like La Grange every year as part of quick trips where we visit different sites. Donna…

Texas Travel – Getting Reacquainted With Home Part III
As we continued to travel in Texas we decided to visit West Texas. We had never really traveled to West Texas and I had only been there once quite a few years ago just passing through on a drive from New Mexico to Houston. We had heard about the desolation and desert in the area and Big Bend but didn’t know a whole lot else. In September of 2020 we took a flight to Midland/Odessa and visited the large area that is West Texas. We visited the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, The George W. Bush childhood home, The Odessa Meteor Crater and the Monahan’s Sand Dune’s State Park in the…

Dallas Love Field Connections and Delays
If you are like me I fly Southwest (I fly a variety of airlines) pretty often when I travel domestically. For some routes you will have to change planes and one of the Southwest Hubs you might fly through is Dallas Love Field. Dallas Love field is a really nice airport with some great places to eat and very modern and nice décor. Its also very easy to navigate the airport and they have great technology pointing you to your gate. There is an issue right now though when connecting through Dallas Love Field as we have encountered. Dallas Love Field usually has two runways they use but one is…

Texas Travel – Getting Reacquainted With Home Part II
As we started to travel safely again (we avoided contact with as many people as we could, wore our masks kept things clean) we started to branch out from the Texas Gulf Coast so we started touring places in Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country. This is an area of Texas that is a big tourism draw already but we visited some places we had been before and places that we had never seen. We started visiting Central Texas around July of 2020 and we visited Waco, Boerne, Fredericksburg and caves in the area. Things were different of course but we still had the chance to see a lot…

Texas Travel – Getting reacquainted with home Part 1
Over the past year and a half with international travel at a stand still as the terrible pandemic raged around the world Donna and I took a pause from international travel and instead became reacquainted with our home state. We have always traveled within Texas but never as extensively as we have done in the last year. We took a pause from travel but once we believed we could travel we started out much closer to home. Over the past year of travel within Texas we have learned more about the vast state we call home. From bustling cities to desolate desert landscapes our state is truly varied. We visited…

Flying Delta Airlines During the Pandemic
Donna and I recently took flights from Houston to Salt Lake City and then a Delta Connection flight to Grand Junction in Colorado. We found that Delta is going above and beyond to keep people as safe as possible and we were impressed with each step of the process. Like I always say during these times it is up to you to decide if you want to travel or go anywhere based on the risks but we found our experience to be safe and enjoyable. Check In: Like other airlines we have flown Delta requires everyone to wear masks while checking in at the counter and plexiglass shields help keep…

Movie Theaters
I know this is not really a travel post but I wanted to share our experience visiting the movie theater recently. We saw Tenet, New Mutants and Unhinged. We visited AMC Theaters where we used our A-List pass to see the movies. We found it very easy to social distance and felt very safe. In all reality we felt safer than when visiting some stores or restaurants (we generally do take out for safety reasons at the moment). Here is what we experienced while at the theater. As I always say this is what we have experienced and you could have a different experience Entry and ticket taking: We always…

Flying Frontier During the Pandemic
Donna and I have traveled twice on Frontier during the Pandemic. We flew a round trip to Bismark, North Dakota and a round trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. The experience we had very good and we felt same on the flights. Like I always say it is up to you when you feel comfortable traveling or leaving your home in general but this is to be a guide so you can see what it might be like if you choose to travel on Frontier. Check in: At each airport they have marked 6 feet of distance at the check in counter and you are required to wear a mask while…

Flight Travel Today
With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic travel has drastically changed. There are travel restrictions all over the world and even quite a few between the different states in the US. At the airport things are also very different. The article today is about our recent experience June 5th to June 7th flying for the first time since mid March. We decided it was time to test the waters and try a short flight to Corpus Christi on Southwest Airlines. I write this article so you can see first hand what its currently like to travel now and give a little information on travel today. I am not encouraging you to travel…
