We will not get into politics on our page or newsletters as our goal is only to give travel news that might be helpful to those planning or are already booked for travel. There is a lot going on in the world, but it shouldn’t stop us from meaningful travel. Here are a few stories that caught our eye

Canada Relations and Travel Impacts

Right now, the US relations with countries such as Canada is tense and could affect travel such cruising where there are threats from Canada to disallow American Cruise lines from stopping in British Columbia Ports on the way to and from Alaska. Nothing has changed yet, but it is something to watch out for.

Change in European Union ETIAS Effective Date

The ETIAS will be a program for entering into the 29 countries that have no borders between each other (no border checks) based on the Schengen Agreement. You will need to pay a small fee and fill out a form that allows the EU to check to make sure the traveler is not a threat to the countries in the region. Currently the US and UK have similar programs. This was supposed to take effect in late 2025 but has now been pushed to late 2026.

Southwest Airlines Changing Baggage and Other Policies

Starting with flights booked after May 28, 2025 only A-List, Business Select, and credit card holders will get free checked bags on Southwest that ends the longtime policy. The airline has also made changes to earning Rapid Rewards Miles. You will earn fewer miles each flight (a trend with most airlines).

Featured New Guides

We recently visited the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa that is located near Bastrop, Texas. It is 30 minutes or so from Austin, not far from San Marcos, New Braunfels and other cities as well. It is a short drive as well from the BBQ Capital of Texas (Lockhart). The resort has plenty of activities and luxury in the countryside. Check out our new guide around our tour and experiences at the resort. We usually can get special deals on many Hyatt Properties that are not available to the public including the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines! Contact us to get these deals!
