Lessons from Traveling and Software Development
I have found over all my travels and my software development experience that there are many lessons that can be learned from travel that can be put into practice as technical professionals to make us and our companies better. If you are not familiar with me, my name is Jason Miller and I have near 15 years of Software Development Experience working at both small and large (Fortune 500) companies and I’ve worked in a variety of types of development. I have coded Energy Measurement, Invoicing and Accounting, and custom HR software. Most recently I have been developing Workday software using Workday Extend. Before I became a developer I first was a substitute teacher that specialized teaching Math and worked doing research and writing for NASA on a Space Shuttle Book Project.
In travel I take my pursuit of life long learning to heart by going to new places and learning about new cultures. My wife and I since we have been married have visited all 50 US States, two US territories and over 50 different countries on 5 different continents. We have seen the good and the bad around the world and have had many different unique experiences. We have learned to work as a team when traveling and its made us closer and stronger as not everything works out when traveling.
In this new series I want to combine my experiences working in technology and all that I have learned through my many travels to help motivate us to all be better technical professionals, travelers and team mates. I hope this will be helpful and entertaining for you all as I share experiences and lessons I’ve had through the years!
