Movie Theaters
I know this is not really a travel post but I wanted to share our experience visiting the movie theater recently. We saw Tenet, New Mutants and Unhinged. We visited AMC Theaters where we used our A-List pass to see the movies. We found it very easy to social distance and felt very safe. In all reality we felt safer than when visiting some stores or restaurants (we generally do take out for safety reasons at the moment). Here is what we experienced while at the theater. As I always say this is what we have experienced and you could have a different experience
Entry and ticket taking: We always buy our tickets online but there was no line at the ticket stand at the AMC Gulf Pointe 30. When we walked in the ticket taker stand had plexiglass around it and the employee was wearing a mask and gloves. They scanned our phones and we were on our way quickly and without much interaction.
The Lobby and getting snacks: There are hand sanitizing stations and disinfecting wipes all over the lobby and in front of each theater so we sanitized our hands as we came in. For us we buy our popcorn and drink online so we do not need to stand in line. They grab our snacks for us and we are on our way. There were a few people buying snacks each time but in general once again it was very easy to social distance. You cannot get your own butter and popcorn salt so they give you a small container with butter, popcorn salt and napkins so you avoid common touch surfaces. For the self serve Coca-Cola Stations we used a disinfecting wipe to clean it off before use and they have then at each machine. They also have some machines shut down to allow for more social distancing. We once again had very little interaction with people.
In the Theater: The seating at AMC is all reserved so when you reserve your ticket they automatically block off the seats around you and in front of you to allow for more social distancing. In the Dolby Theater with the recliners they do not block off the seats in front of you since there is already extra distance. We used the disinfecting wipes to wipe down the seats before we sat down at each movie. The rules are you must wear your mask at all times unless you are eating or drinking. We only removed our mask at that time but otherwise we wore it throughout the movie. Some people kept their mask off for quite some time eating but for the most part people kept their masks on. For each movie were were quite a ways from anyone else so we felt pretty safe in that regard. For one of our movies we were the only two people in the theater so we had the ultimate social distancing.
Once again it is up to you to decide when you want to venture out and try things during the pandemic but we found our movie experiences at AMC to be good ones and were safe. We have had a harder time social distancing at some stores in comparison to the movies. You could have a different experience than us but if you try it hopefully you will find it as safe as we did! We are so glad to be back at the movies!
